Carolyn Martin, President & CEO With over 15 years of leadership and management experience in Alberta’s energy and technology sectors, Carolyn has had much success in bringing innovation to industries such as renewable energy technologies, emergency preparedness, and disaster notification. Prior to founding Sponsor Energy, she served as President of one of the largest member organizations for Renewable Energy professionals in North America and has previously excelled as VP Business Development in a number of energy and energy technology companies.
Kelly Gunsch, Chief Operating Officer Kelly is an energy industry executive with twenty years of experience in the power industry spanning shareholder-owned corporations, not-for-profit organizations and government agencies. She has a strong track record in electricity markets, commercial operations, portfolio management, business and corporate development. Prior to joining Sponsor Energy, Kelly served as Vice-President of Market Services for the Alberta Electric System Operator, Chief Strategy Officer for the Calgary Homeless Foundation and Vice-President of Commercial Operations at TransAlta. In her spare time, Kelly competitively shows her five Great Danes in conformation, obedience and rally-obedience. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Economics from the University of Calgary.
Karim Teja, Finance Advisor; Financial and operational executive with over 15 years of success in public company management, financing, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, intellectual property, P&L management, cash flow management, securities and exchange regulations, inventory management, A/P, A/R, payroll and foreign currency. Extensive background in the manufacture and distribution of healthcare technology, commercializing environmental technologies and launching software (including SaaS) solutions. Specialties are: Financing / Public Company Management / Investor Relations / M&A Deals / Technology Commercialization / Start-ups / Intellectual Property /Manufacturing / National and International Business.
Dan Brownsberger, Community Development Manager With 8 years in the energy sector, Dan excels at working with various industries helping them to understand the complexities of energy management. Dan grew up in Calgary and is a strong proponent of volunteerism, having spent 30 years with the 92nd Group – a Scouting Program for the developmentally disabled, where he was awarded the Scouts Canada Medal of Merit. Dan enjoys getting out in the mountains to hike and mountain bike and is looking forward to managing the ongoing relationship with Sponsor Energy’s Community Partners.
Janelle Jenkinson, Controller A Chartered Accountant with nearly 10 years experience Janelle’s passion is working with entrepreneurial organizations to ensure financial accountability and organization efficiency. Janelle articled with Ernst & Young LLP where she focused on retail, energy, technology and not-for-profit clients. Prior to starting her consulting practice in 2013 she held the position of Controller at the Calgary Homeless Foundation where she was responsible for financial reporting, compliance and internal controls.
Nicole Kiefuik, Market Manager With a sales and business development career that spans over 15 years in advertising, oil and gas, construction and agriculture, Nicole’s success is attributed to a strong focus on client service and satisfaction. She is motivated by lasting business relationships and driven to provide innovative solutions that meet and exceed client needs. Nicole’s work with Sponsor Energy aligns closely with her personal commitment of giving back to the community. She is currently serving as Board Director for MEOW Foundation, and previously volunteered for five years with the Calgary Public Library’s Read With Me program.
Stephanie Shaver, Customer Systems Analyst
Stephanie has over 8 years of experience managing projects and client relationships in a range of fast-pace industries, including high tech startups, fashion, and engineering. Her passion is in leading new initiatives and developing processes and controls to ensure the smooth running of projects. Outside of the office, she remains focused on the community experience as an active volunteer, leading technology initiatives for CARE Calgary’s Walk In Her Shoes campaign, raising funds for women and girls in poverty, and a variety of other great organizations (Beakerhead, 100 Women Who Care Calgary, and Calgary Mini MakerFare).
Rhonda Kohnen, Manager – Community Programs As a visionary leader with over 20 years of experience in the energy industry, Rhonda has a proven track record in creating collaborative partnerships and innovative change in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Rhonda is passionate about building capacity and sustainable practices that produce meaningful and impactful results, at an individual, organizational and community level. Rhonda is an avid volunteer for the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society and the Alberta Spay and Neuter Task force. She also served as the Board Chair for Aspen Family and Community Network Society and the Alliance for Capitalizing on Change. Rhonda holds an MBA from the Haskayne School of Business and a Teaching Certificate (University of Calgary).
Kathryn Lundy, Project Manager – She brings 30 + years in the Canadian and Caribbean energy and environmental sectors, and has extensive experience in all aspects of corporate management, regulatory interpretation, and strategic business development, including divestment and acquisitions. Kathryn will be assisting with eliminating energy poverty, Campaign Management and First Nations Consultation.
Chris Bedford – A skilled communicator and strategic thinker, Chris has helped a roster of blue chip clients focus and streamline their brand stories. He joined Karo in 1994 as a shareholder and head of the client services team, moving into the role of President two years later. Since 2007 he has served as Chairman, President & CEO of Karo Group, who focuses on customer engagement strategies to enhance brand success. Chris serves on the board of Sponsor Energy as well as the Boston based Design Management Institute (DMI) and Titan Clean Energy Projects Corporation. He is a past board member of Ronald McDonald House of Southern Alberta where he chaired the strategic planning and brand communication committees, as well as a past board member of Beakerhead. Chris holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Donna Kennedy-Glans – Brings 30+ years of corporate, not-for-profit and government perspective to the Sponsor Energy table. Donna loves all things energy–has worked as a lawyer, executive and advisor in 35 jurisdictions worldwide, bringing together diverse stakeholders. She founded Bridges Social Development, originally to train women in Yemen; the organization now works with youth social entrepreneurs. In 2012, Donna was elected as a provincial MLA and named Alberta’s first Minister responsible for electricity and renewable energy. Donna has published two books, a text on how to manage beyond compliance and a narrative non-fiction on gender equality.
Andreas Souvaliotis, Advisory Board Renowned social entrepreneur and author of highly acclaimed memoir ‘Misfit: Changemaker With an Edge’, Andreas was the founder and CEO of Green Rewards which was later transformed into AIR MILES for Social Change. He is the Founder and executive chairman of Social Change Rewards, a new global venture in the space of responsible incentives. He serves as the National Education Chair for Young Presidents’ Organization in Canada; chairs the national advisory committee on climate change for WWF Canada; and also chairs the advisory board of the Centre for Responsible Leadership at Queen’s School of Business.
